Welcome to Visiting Academics
We welcome academics visiting from other institutions, to meet us, and to use facilities such as the Herbarium.
Study leave at Otago
Academics are very welcome to spend study leave with us. We can offer a wide range of plant communities within easy reach, a wide range of expertise and facilities within the Department, and the opportunity to collaborate with other departments, such as Biochemistry, Geography, Information Science, Marine Science and Zoology.
Most visitors appreciate the lifestyle of Dunedin, a city of 120,000 people, with an oceanic climate, largely a university town. More information about the University of Otago and Dunedin is available here.
Visitors on study leave will normally be work with a member/members of our academic staff. See our People pages and Research groupings .
We can provide desk space, computing facilities and access to the excellent Library resources. All our research facilities are available, depending of course on other demands.
Finance
There are no bench fees. Our staff can usually provide some field/lab expenses for joint projects. The University of Otago offers William Evans Fellowships to notable visitors. The Department of Botany may be able to offer more limited support.
Planning
We can receive visitors at short notice, but planning up to two years ahead is very useful, especially when financial support has to be sourced.
